Iwanna be able to pick up a publication with eye-grabbing visuals, featuring stories of young diverse, selfless, dynamic people who defy the odds and tell their story in their words.

That’s what Media Hyphenates is, and I hope the generosity of their time, and patience in curating their stories pays off. BTW Media Hyphenates isn’t an entirely new term, but it certainly resonates now.

You know what it’s like to come across people like that, they give off good vibes. There’s the flip side, people whom you’d like to work with to help tell their story, but for their own reasons it’s not possible.

Think about it, why do we all have favourite magazines and journals? The elements of brand. And for content makers doing extraordinary things why would you not want to have exposure? There were frameworks working with all the writers. Take us on a journey, I asked, warts n’ all, and they did.

Then there was a second set of writers, the experts. They’re some of the best in the industry, setting up new platforms, winning multiple awards, driving innovation for decades and mentoring talent. They’d mentored some of the writers, and worked at the BBC, Channel 4, academia undertaking a range of global projects. They share their space in Media Hyphenates with younger talent.

Sometimes you wish for something, even try to sell the idea and it doesn’t quite happen, so you create it yourself. What drove Media Hyphenates making too was its diversity, whilst embracing one of three components of my work. The other two are cinema journalism, and creativity and innovation.

The journal could not be possible without AI, as you’ll likely see. It should launch in January 2024. Happy New Year until then.
