Organising one of the most respected and global gatherings of academics and journalists-The Future of Journalism
It was an unforgettable experience leading the committee organising one of the most respected and successful global gatherings of academics and journalists, The Future of Journalism. Thanks to JT.
The keynote speakers were enriching: Gary Younge, Danielle (Kilgo) Brown Danielle and Cherian George and the 240 sessions from an initial 320 papers selected were deeply stimulating.
Friends have since asked what I would have personally featured if I had the chance and I had not been organising. For me there are two themes of a future storytelling & journalism.
1. Cinema Journalism
2. Stacked storytelling
- Cinema Journalism is a 21st century form of storytelling which puts culture and diversity at the epicentre of its story form. It has a a global history that’s largely erased, but in a streaming environment will dominate. Simply because it yields compelling stories for journalists and corporates. - Stacked storytelling says in a complex world journalism’s impact has increasingly been eroded. In part it’s because engagement with traditional forms of journalism can be constrained, or is under strain from disinformation, so what do you do? Storytellers and journalists become engineers and build platforms to support stories. I’ve been training delegates and students for more than 15 years in this field. More
