Very insightful. I remember entering Soweto in 1991 for the first time only to realise British TV news had generally created a circus for its viewers back home. There’s much I share with this author. Videojournalism, my profession, has also been frankensteined by the mega medias. It too is about authorship, about a cognitive awareness within the ecosystem where a story’s raw material (its fabula) is located. And how personal style re-presents the story. I have had an interesting couple of years as a juror and chair of jurors on the UK’s Royal Television Society News Awards (RTS). Some of that experience has helped shape a broader doctoral text for publication later this year.
